The change in pattern
of the state entrance
examinations (SEE-2011) for
admissions to BTech/BArch gave
students a tough time managing
the three sections within the
stipulated time frame of three
hours.
"There were apprehensions
among the students. There were
questions in which the students
were suppose to tick the wrong
answer. It was basically aimed at
checking their attentiveness,"
said admission coordinator,
UPSEE-2011, Prof Onkar Singh.
For the first time, the question
paper included multiple choice
questions (MCQ), where more
than one answer was correct.
"Such kind of MCQs were
intellectually challenging for the
students. To break the comfort
level, intricacies of MCQs were
included. But, we never wanted
students to be stressed out, and
so levels were kept low,
accordingly," said Prof S K Kak,
vice-chancellor, Mahamaya
Technical University, which
conducted UPSEE-2011.
For the students, the paper was
simple though lengthy. "The time
management was the biggest
problem this time. The
calculations in mathematics were
longer and hence more time was
devoted there. However, three
sections in three hours was a
mammoth task,'' said Shivam
Agarwal, who appeared in SEE
for the second time.
Similarly, another student, Shikha
Singh, gave mixed response.
"Physics and chemistry were
simple. There was not much
problem with MCQs, as such
types of questions are asked in
other competitive exams also.
The trouble was only, when the
section for MCQs was not
defined."
However, majority of the
students found the paper easy
except that it was for the first
time, when they were appearing
for a single slot in SEE. Giving
advantages of earlier pattern, an
aspirant, Vishal Singh said,
"There was ample time to solve
the paper. This time, we had to
be really attentive and cautious
of time."
As many as 1.79 lakh candidates
took the exam in 27 cities in the
state, as compared to 1.70 lakh
aspirants, who appeared last
year.
