To enable students to assess their performance, the higher and technical education department has decided to let them retain a copy of their answersheets, also referred to as the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheets, of MHT-CET.
Minister for higher and technical education Rajesh Tope said the directorate of technical educationwill upload answers to all the questions on its website soon after the exams. "Students can use this to assess their performance," Tope said. Students pursuing admission to engineering, technology, pharmacy, and health sciences courses sit for MHT-CET.
Officials said the decision to upload answers before the declaration of the results would help bring down applications for rechecking and enable raising of objections, if any, to answers beforehand. The department is also looking at the possibility of allowing students to retain a copy of the question paper. At present, students have to leave their question papers with the exam supervisor. while leaving the examination hall.
The plan is to make these changes applicable from 2012 onwards. A proposal to set up a separate regulatory authority for CET exams in the state is also under consideration. The regulatory authority will be responsible for conducting the exams, declaring results and guiding the admission process.
The department recently held a meeting with a parent-teacher association. The association had requested the department to a change in the exam schedule to facilitate students, especially those who hail from remote areas. Instead of the one-day routine observed at present, the association has requested the department to
switch to a two-day schedule instead of the existing one-day routine in which students have tosit for papers of four subjects-physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics (in that sequence). While rejecting the two-day suggestion, the department agreed to a change in sequence The association argued that one day routine is too tough on the students.
(biology, mathematics, chemistry and physics) as suggested by the association.
It has also agreed to examine thefeasibility of taking into account HSC scores along with CET scores during admissions. The association had suggested that an average of marks obtained in HSC and CET be considered for theadmission.
The department has also said that it was considering a proposal for a common entrance test for all autonomous and otherengineering colleges.
