Things to know about GATE 2013
- The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted by the seven
IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) and IISc (Indian Institute of Science),
Bengaluru. - It is an all India examination for admission to Master's program in
engineering, to the best engineering colleges and institutes in the country.
- This year Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is the Organising
Institute for GATE 2013. - Pre-final year students ie third year students are not be eligible for GATE 2013.
- A close look at the changing pattern of the GATE exam over the years indicates that precision is the key ingredient for success in GATE 2013 .
- This year (GATE 2013) the examination for the papers with codes AE, AG, AR, BT, CE, CH, CY, GG, MA, MN, MT, PH, TF, XE and XL will be conducted ONLINE using computers where the candidates will be required to select the answer for each question using a mouse. For all other papers (CS, EC, EE, IN, ME & PI), the exam will be conducted OFFLINE in whicih candidates will have to mark the correct choice on an Optical Response Sheet (ORS) by darkening the appropriate bubble against each question.
GATE 2013 Question Pattern
The three-hour exam with 65 questions (30 one-mark questions and 35 two-mark questions) summing up to 100 marks will have questions from core subjects, engineering maths and general aptitude.
- Questions from the core engineering subjects far outweigh the other two areas with 70 per cent weightage.
- But, General Aptitude and engineering maths with 15 marks each, play a vital role in maximising the score
TIPS TO PREPARE FOR GATE 2013 FOR ALL BRANCHES
- Get your fundamentals right
- The questions are derivations and applications of these basics. Becareful to note that mugging formulas does not help, as the questionsare not on jotting them down.
- Questions are likely to test the applicants’ grip on basic concepts and the ability to apply them in problems.
- Solving previous years papers gives you a fair idea of what the actualpaper would be like.
- Solve mock test papers: While preparing for the exam it is really important that you should solve as many papers as you can.
NEW CHANGES IN GATE 2013
- 15 subject papers will be conducted by an ONLINE computer based test: AE, AG, AR, BT,CE, CH, CY, GG, MA, MN, MT, PH, TF, XE, and XL.
- Female candidates are exempted from paying the application fee.
- Some of the prestigious organizations like INDIAN OILCORPORATION & BARC, Mumbai call for interviews for scientist jobs,based on GATE score/percentiles. Those who get good GATE scores, aregenerally selected.
- You will get scholarship of Rs.8000/- per MONTH if you are qualified inGATE and studying M Tech in IISC or IIT’s.
