The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an all India entrance examination conducted on rotation by 14 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their under-graduate and post-graduate degree programmes (LL.B & LL.M). - The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) – 2013 for admission to under-graduate and
post-graduate programmes offered by member National Law Universities is scheduled to take place on Sunday, i.e. on 12th May 2013, from 03:00 p.m. to 05:00 p.m. - Sale of Application Forms and Information Brochure and also previous Years Question
Papers (from 2008-2012) will commence from 15th January 2013 at the specified branches of
SBI and the member National Law Universities. Online application facility will also be
available from 15th January 2013.

Pattern of the CLAT Paper for Admission to the Under-Graduate Programme

Note: There shall be a system of Negative Marking wherein 0.25 mark will be deducted for each of the wrong answers to multiple choice questions.
- The different subject areas of the exam are explained as
under:
- English Including Comprehension The English section will test the candidates’ proficiency in English based on comprehension passages and grammar. In the comprehension section, candidates will be assessed on their understanding of the passage given, its central theme and meanings of the words used therein, etc. The grammar section will focus on correction of incorrect grammatical sentences, filling of blanks in the given sentences with appropriate words, etc..
- General Knowledge and Currents Affairs As far as general knowledge is concerned, the candidates will be assessed on their general awareness including static general knowledge. Questions on current affairs will test candidate’s knowledge on current affairs.
- Mathematics This section will test candidate’s knowledge on elementary mathematics, i.e. mathematics taught up to Class X.
- Legal Aptitude This section will test candidate’s interest towards study of law, research aptitude and problem solving ability. Questions asked may comprise of legal propositions/ principles and a set of facts to which the said proposition/ principle has to be applied to arrive at a most reasonable conclusion. Such propositions may or may not be ‘true’ in the real sense; yet the candidates will have to assume that the given propositions are true and answer the questions accordingly. An example of such legal proposition may be that any person who speaks in a movie hall and disturbs others who are watching the movie will be banned from entering any movie theatre across India for one year.
- Logical Reasoning The purpose of the logical reasoning section is to test the candidate’s ability to identify patterns, logical links and rectify illogical arguments. It will include a wide variety of logical reasoning questions such as syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc. However, visual reasoning will not be tested.

Tie-Breaking
In the event of equal marks scored by two or more candidates in the CLAT-2013, the tie will be broken by the following procedure and order:

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING AND SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION FORMS:
- Mode of obtaining Application Form and Information Brochure for CLAT-2013

Printed OMR Application Forms along with the CLAT-2013 Information Brochure will be made available at the designated branches (refer-www.clat.ac.in) of the State Bank of India (SBI) and in all the participating NLUs mentioned above against payment of Rs.3000/- only (Rs.2500/- in case of SC/ST candidates on submission of proof) excluding the bank charges. For purcahasing Application Form from the designated branches of SBI, fees can be paid through a ‘Challan’ by furnishing the required information about the candidate as specified in the 'Challan' form. For purchasing Application Form from the participating NLUs, the candidates can make payment either through ‘Cash’ or ‘Demand Draft’ drawn in favour of the Registrars of the concerned NLUs to be payable at the respective cities of their location.
- Application Form and CLAT-2013 Information Brochure can also be procured through registered/speed post by sending a requisition letter (with Father’s Name, Contact Numbers, detail Mailing Address and PIN Code) to the Convener, CLAT-2013, Hidayatullah National Law University, Post – Uparwara, Abhanpur, New Raipur – 493661 (Chhattisgarh) along with a Demand Draft of Rs.3100/- (Rs.2600/- in case of SC/ST candidates) drawn in favour of “Registrar, HNLU – CLAT 2013 A/C” to be payable at Raipur (Chhattisgarh). Rs. 3100.00/Rs. 2600.00 includes an additional amount of Rs.100.00 being charged for sending the Application Form and Information Brochure through Speed/Registered Post.
- Candidates can also apply online by visiting and following the instructions given in the CLAT-2013 website (www.clat.ac.in). The online payment for applying for CLAT-2013 can be made through net-banking, debit card, credit card, etc. In case of online application, the candidates will have to bear the additional transaction costs for remitting the fees online through payment gateways.
- Old Question Booklets for UG as well as PG courses will be available at the designated branches of SBI and participating Universities/Institutes including the organizing university (i.e. HNLU, Raipur) at a cost of Rs. 200/- per booklet. The Question Booklets will also be made available on the CLAT Website (www.clat.ac.in) and can be downloaded by making online payment of Rs. 200/- through net banking, debit card, credit card, etc. In addition to making online payment of Rs. 200/-, the applicant will have to bear the bank transaction cost for remitting the charges online. In case, the question papers are sent on request through registered/speed post, the candidates will have to bear an additional cost of Rs.100/- towards the postage charges.
- Mode of Applying
- Duly filled-in OMR Application Form along with a copy of the Bank Challan/Cash Receipt/Demand Draft can be submitted to the Convener, CLAT-2013, either in person (from 10:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m. on all working days) or through registered/speed post so as to reach the following address on or before 05:00 p.m. of 30th March 2013. The relevant certificates/documents in support of one’s claim for admission are not to be submitted along with the Application Form. The original certificates/documents (as indicated in the OMR Application Form and specified in the CLAT-2013 Information Brochure) issued by competent authority are to be submitted to the allotted University/Institute only at the time of admission. As the Hidayatullah National Law University is
located 30 kms away from the main city of Raipur and the courier
services are not up to the mark, the candidates are advised not to send
their applications through courier. - Application for CLAT-2013 can also be made through online (www.clat.ac.in) including online payment of application fees and uploading of the passport size (3.5 x 4.5) photograph and scanned copy of the signature through electronic mode. Candidates applying online must visit and carefully read the instructions given in the CLAT-2013 website (www.clat.ac.in).
